Hello my beauties…I have neglected you, I admit it, and I apologize. Life has been, well, intense and fascinating! What’s been going on? Well next month will mark my 1-year Tattoo “Graduation” Anniversary! I am happily putting art on people’s skin at Preying Mantis Tattoo in Lakewood, Colorado with a bunch of great guys. Fabulous Finds -Holiday Miracle Edition

It was an amazing day of shopping at our favorite thrift store! I swear, if there is something I want and I am patient, it will eventually show up at the thrift store…I’ve been wanting one of these Sapiens bookshelves for a couple years now. They retail for $225 (plus $36 shipping) on Amazon. Today at the thrift store there it was, for $12. I was so excited I’m sure they all thought I was nuts 😉 We also scored a lovely hand-made 100% wool rug for the hall, something else we’ve been looking for, $10. In the ladies section I was thrilled to snap up 2 pairs of ‘7 for all Mankind’ jeans, a pair of Rock and Republic jeans (all $6 each), a Haute Hippe $300 silk blouse for $4.99, a pretty pink merino wool sweater from Bloomingdales ($3.99) and a big lovely silk Brooks Brothers scarf for $1.99. Woo hoo! What a great day. Holiday miracle shopping! I am one happy camper.

New Fabulous Finds! Awesome Z Gallerie Vases from the Thrift Store…

New Fabulous Finds!

I love these big decorative vases from Z Gallerie. I found them at my favorite Goodwill this week, and they look great in the living room. They are in new condition, and still have the original price tags on the bottom ($49.99 each). I snapped them up for $14.99 each. Yay!

Want to see the DIY on those vintage folding chairs? I found them in the alley and made them pretty.

That great acrylic cart came from Goodwill, too, and only $14.99!

Fall Fabulous Thrifted Fashion, or Yes You CAN Look Great in Clothes from the Thrift Store!

It’s time for a fun fashion post! As my regular readers know, I’m all about the thrifting, and find great designer clothes all the time at the thrift store. This week it’s admittedly not all from the thrift store, just mostly. I’m trying to do more of these little fashion posts so you can see it is actually possible to look great in thrifted clothes! And…how about a fashion blog for the over-40-and-not-a-freaking-size-0 set? Can I get an “Amen”? 🙂

This week we had a post-Thanksgiving outing the the Museum of Contemporary Art for the Mark Mothersbaugh exhibit here in Denver. This is what I wore:

Top: Banana Republic black silk blend 3/4 sleeve turtleneck, $3.99 Goodwill

Jacket: Charcoal gray fitted jean jacket by DKNY, $6.99 Goodwill

Skirt: Leopard print and lace Alberto Makali layered skirt, on sale at Neiman Marcus, $69 (regularly $150) (I’ve had this skirt for 8 years, I wear it often, so quite a bargain!)

Booties: Sam Edelman black suede booties, $7.99, Goodwill.

Jewelry: Acrylic with gold bracelet and gold-tone hoop earrings, $2.99 and $1.99, Goodwill.

Bag: Fuchsia leather Marc Jacobs, $400 (regularly $1200), Neiman Marcus Last Call. OK, this one is not a “great bargain” I admit. It was a special gift I bought myself after selling several paintings, and it was 7 years ago. I still LOVE this bag and use it just about every day. It pays to buy quality! That $400 works out to about $57 a year for the bag so far, and I have no plans to give up this bag any time soon.

Here I am “contemplating the art” (ie: Having a goof), inside the exhibit, which was awesome by the way. If you are in Denver, I highly recommend it.

Victorian Gothic Halloween, A Home Tour: Part 2: The Entry & Stairwell.

As promised, here is the entry and stairwell, all set up and ready for this year’s Halloween shenanigans…

This year I brought all my old crow decoys inside the house (see the Front Room decor HERE) and I love the way they look on top of the newel posts, so dramatic! Attaching them was challenging, but I figured it out using zip ties. (Look below to see how I attached them.) I also used zip ties to attach the garlands and lights to the railing. So quick and easy, and super fast to take down. That’s our regular Dogvacay guest Cleo the Weimeraner at the top of the stairs in the second photo. Oh, I almost forgot the mice. Good ol’ Martha Stewart mice, from Micheal’s craft store. I’ve been using them for about 4 years now.

Here is how I attached the crows with zip ties. I then used sheer black fabric to cover up the bases and the zip ties. I also did the lights a little different this year. Instead of just stringing the tri-color and amber lights along the railing, I gathered more of the sheer black fabric around them, and draped more of the fabric down from the railing here and there. I like the look. On top of that I wrapped in my old fake fall leaves garland. (All of the garland was purchased at the thrift store years ago.) After Halloween, I’ll remove the black fabric, tri-colored lights, and crows and just leave the amber lights and leaves up for Thanksgiving.

Here is the landing at the top of the stairs. I put a couple of those fun blinking eye shoe boxes here under the chair for a little ghoulish surprise.

Lastly, here is the front entry at the bottom of the stairs. I used more of that sheer black fabric to drape the mirror (over a string of purple lights), the pedestal, and the chair. The skull on top of the pedistal “smokes” and changes colors. These are also from Target a few years back. I also added some little black bats across the front door. I just printed them off the computer, cut them out and attached to the wall. The graphic on the door is also just a printed image on glossy photo paper. The fun ghoul portraits on the walls next to the front door I bought at Target about 5 years ago, half-off the day after Halloween of course 😉 My vintage “trick” light at the bottom of the stairs is still one of my favorites. It was purchased at a garage sale over a decade ago for a few dollars.

I promise to post a video tour of the Halloween decor within the week. Happy Halloween everyone!
