New Scary Eye Theme for Halloween in the Front Yard for 2015

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

We changed things up just a bit in the front yard this year for our favorite holiday, Halloween! Inspired by my new “Crawling Eye” prop (see the DIY here) we went with creepy eyes. I found some blow-up eyes online for about $3 each and put them in the plant pots and on the porch on top of our old fake fall leaves and orange lights. I also made the silly big-eyed monsters in the upper windows from black poster board and colored tissue paper. (Inspired by these amazing monsters: http://fashionnaction.blogspot.com/2011/10/googly-monster-house-halloween.html ) The eyes on the porch wall were left-overs from a party years ago (just eyeballs printed out on gloss paper from google images) I only spent about $40 for this year’s update, everything else (black fabric, fake pumpkins, black lights) are all things we’ve had for years, just moved around. Enjoy!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

It’s my favorite holiday, so I tend to go a little nuts. This year I added some new fun with an eye theme in the front yard, with the Crawling Eye as the centerpiece (based on the admittedly awful 1950’s sci-fi movie by the same name.) Here’s the DIY:

Halloween Decor, Dia De Los Muertos Style! or…What I did outside the house this year…DIY

halloween2014porchdusk3

I love Halloween!!! I go a little nutso decorating every year, but always on a budget. Most of our things we’ve been reusing for years, (like the fake pumpkins and crow decoys, though we do add a few new things here and there from yard sales, thrift stores, even dumpster-diving. I try and change it up a bit every year by moving things around and using things in different ways. I acquired these “hand-me-down” Dia De Los Muertos skull graphics from a big party I helped with a couple years ago, so they were Free! And I love them. It’s because of them I decided to go all Day of the Dead-ish outside this year. I used a unifying theme of hot pink fabric. (all leftover from other projects) Here is all I did, step by step:

The Eyes Have It…Spooky Halloween Goodness that is. A Cool & Easy Ghoulish DIY with Shoe Boxes

Spooky blinking eyes! Everyone who comes to the house comments on these. Easy, cheap, and high-impact.  You can hang a few or a ton of these. Last year I did a massive wall of these (about 25) for our Fantastic Hosts Halloween event (what are the Fantastic Hosts?) and it was a huge hit. I’m using a mere 6 of them on the front porch this year.
