Fall Fabulous Thrifted Fashion, or Yes You CAN Look Great in Clothes from the Thrift Store!

It’s time for a fun fashion post! As my regular readers know, I’m all about the thrifting, and find great designer clothes all the time at the thrift store. This week it’s admittedly not all from the thrift store, just mostly. I’m trying to do more of these little fashion posts so you can see it is actually possible to look great in thrifted clothes! And…how about a fashion blog for the over-40-and-not-a-freaking-size-0 set? Can I get an “Amen”? 🙂

This week we had a post-Thanksgiving outing the the Museum of Contemporary Art for the Mark Mothersbaugh exhibit here in Denver. This is what I wore:

Top: Banana Republic black silk blend 3/4 sleeve turtleneck, $3.99 Goodwill

Jacket: Charcoal gray fitted jean jacket by DKNY, $6.99 Goodwill

Skirt: Leopard print and lace Alberto Makali layered skirt, on sale at Neiman Marcus, $69 (regularly $150) (I’ve had this skirt for 8 years, I wear it often, so quite a bargain!)

Booties: Sam Edelman black suede booties, $7.99, Goodwill.

Jewelry: Acrylic with gold bracelet and gold-tone hoop earrings, $2.99 and $1.99, Goodwill.

Bag: Fuchsia leather Marc Jacobs, $400 (regularly $1200), Neiman Marcus Last Call. OK, this one is not a “great bargain” I admit. It was a special gift I bought myself after selling several paintings, and it was 7 years ago. I still LOVE this bag and use it just about every day. It pays to buy quality! That $400 works out to about $57 a year for the bag so far, and I have no plans to give up this bag any time soon.

Here I am “contemplating the art” (ie: Having a goof), inside the exhibit, which was awesome by the way. If you are in Denver, I highly recommend it.

A Sunday Funday Fashion Post! Yes, you CAN Look Great Wearing Clothes from the Thirft Store…

I know I haven’t done a fashion post for awhile, so here it goes! I really liked the funky outfit I put together last night so I’ll share it with you.

I always like to prove you can do almost all your shopping from the thrift store and look great, so here is what I wore last night, with descriptions and prices on everything…

I love a little pop of color when wearing neutrals! It makes the outfit.

From Top to Bottom:

The long-sleeve square-neck black top is by “Velvet”, Goodwill $3.99, purchased this Summer.

Faux Fur Vest by Charlotte Ruse, also from Goodwill, $6.99, purchased last Fall.

DIY Black Heart Necklace (see it HERE) Created February this year.

Leopard-print brushed cotton jeans by Jones New York, Goodwill $8.99. Purchased last year.

HYPE black and gold clutch, Neiman Marcus Last Call, $38 (Originally about $200) purchased about 6 years ago. (this bag was a splurge for me, but I actually use it a ton.)

Costa Blanca Hot Pink satin ankle boots, Neiman Marcus Last Call $18. (originally over $100) purchased about 7 years ago.

Bracelet, Goodwill, $2.99, purchased a couple months ago.

So there you have it, more great looks from your neighborhood thrift store. What have you found lately? I’d love to hear about it.

findoftheweeknov182013

I love finding exactly what I’m looking for at Goodwill! I wanted black wedge boots (right on trend for Fall) and I found them! I honestly was not familiar with the Jeannot name, but they look great, fit well and are Italian-made, so I grabbed them. I looked them up when I got home and discovered they retailed for over $450. What did I pay? $12.99. Nice! I also snagged these D&G (Dolce & Gabbana) sunglasses, with case, for $9.99.

I want to hear about your Fab Finds! Tell what you’ve recently snagged in the Leave a Reply/Comment section.

Find of the Week – August 6, 2013…Designer Finds, Cynthia Rowley & Sigrid Olsen

Another great week at the thrift store…Cynthia Rowley & Sigrid Olsen!

I did my weekly foray at my favorite Goodwill yesterday. After an hour+ of shopping, I hadn’t found anything. I was about to give up for the day when they started rolling racks of women’s clothes out of the back room. I LOVE it when that happens! There’s nothing better than getting first dibs on the new stuff. (Running to the new racks is one of my big Thrifting Tips). What did I find? A pretty 100% silk two-piece embellished tank and skirt from Sigrid Olsen, I love the pattern! (cost $10.99, retail about $250), and my favorite find so far this Summer, a Cynthia Rowley designer dress that will be perfect for fall! (cost $9.99, retail $350+) Can’t wait to sport this one with some cute ankle boots come September…both items are in perfect condition. I had a $10 gift card (thank you Goodwill Club Blue!) so my total was only $11! Viva la Thrifting!

Find of the Week – Giuseppi Zanotti & Ann Taylor

It’s time for another installment of FIND OF THE WEEK!

This week’s finds come from Goodwill. Of course the biggy is the gorgeous pair of Guiseppi Zanotti red jeweled heels (only $6.39! These are a size 7, alas, too small for me, so I have listed them on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/121134146969?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 ) and a near-new pair of navy patent leather Ann Taylor heels ($8.79. I know, the Zanotti’s are far more valuable, but the prices all depend on who is doing the pricing of the items. I find the variations interesting!) The Ann Taylor heels are perfect for my Fourth of July Festivities!
