Ah Thursday. With the weekend just around the corner, I can feel Denver pulses quicken in anticipation…
We have a very rare occasion this month. Second Saturday (June 8th) will arrive directly after First Friday (June 7th), so your art viewing options cover two days in a row! Here are some FREE & CHEAP things to do this weekend:
FRIDAY
On Friday there is a FREE public concert at the Clifford Still Museum downtown featuring ATOMGA (sponsored by Swallow Hill Music) from 5:30pm-7:30pm, and museum admission is FREE 5-8pm! Clifford Still Museum
SATURDAY
My top pick for this weekend is the Art Student’s League of Denver Summer Art Market on Saturday. I haven’t missed one in a decade now. A marvelous mix of student, faculty, and professional artists selling their wares in a relaxed atmosphere. Looking for new art for your home? There are tons of great art bargains to be had here! (maybe Dad would like a little something cool for Father’s Day, this is the place to get it) Hint: I always arrive right when they open (10am), as parking can get difficult, and it will be a hot day. And of course, it’s FREE! (it is also on Sunday)
If you’re into Bluegrass, the South Pearl Street Brew Grass Festival is for you. It begins at Noon on Saturday. While it is not free, it is only $5 for 8 live bands in a quaint neighborhood setting. http://www.southpearlstreet.com/events.html#music
Also on Saturday is the 9th Annual Downtown Littleton Block Party, another fun FREE event, there’s even fireworks! http://www.downtownlittleton.com/
SUNDAY
On Sunday there’s the FREE Festival for Water at Civic Center Park, starting at 4pm. Live music featuring the Motet.
And of course, there’s all the First Friday & Second Saturday art festivities. Here is a listing of art openings, courtesy of Denverarts.org: (remember that the museum events are usually NOT free)
