OK, I know this is a “controversial” subject, (according to the comments) but after being inspired by this Apartment Therapy article ( http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/in-defense-of-organizing-books-by-color-168096 ) I tried it. My books had no previous organization anyway so I gave it a go. And I like it. It was actually fun going through all my beloved art and decorating books. I admit I spent way more time on this than I should have, as I stopped to flip through old favorites I hadn’t looked at in awhile. If I had just done the deed, it would have taken about 30 minutes. The best part is, it didn’t cost a cent! Even my man digs it. He says the titles are easier to read now. Next, I’m hitting the cook books in the kitchen…
FYI…the weird little kitty sculpture is one I made from paper mache’ over a decade ago of my cat at the time, Fu. I picked up the dog toy at the thrift store for about $3 last year. The art is by Bill Amundson (the 2 color drawings, lower left), Claudia Roulier (the 3D piece with the dangling bit) Me (the heart and octopus pieces). The photograph is Anthony Camera, and the funky round piece was a $5 thrift store find. Oh, and the blown glass vase was actually free, it has a chip on the lip and the artist was going to toss it. She was nice enough to let me have it. (I tried to find her for a link here, but could not) I find most of my books at thrift stores and yard sales, and a few are treasured gifts.
This book is waaay up there on my Wish List…
My bookshelves are arranged by topic (per shelf) and then BY COLOR. I realized that, when I go looking for a book, I’m not thinking “the author’s name is…” What I’m thinking is “I know it has a blue cover.” And with this many books, arranging by color gives a better sense of order within the entire office. Now I can find my books and it looks great.
😉 Glad I’m not alone in my color-coding Renna! (You’re right, they ARE easier to find!)
